During our recent presentation night at the Vantage curry house in Dunstable, the attending members of the Regiment (with the exception of Pipeman who was listening to Thomas Hardy on his iPod) were discussing the lack of decent hospitality at away games.
We know that Creasey Park was never much to look at, but we always had decent grub and drinkable beer, which at some grounds in the SSMFL Premier is nowhere near attainable.
Earlier last season, when playing Haringey Borough on a Tuesday night, some of the Regiment stopped off at The Bird in Hand in Palmers Green for some light refreshments. Haringey Borough had a fire back in April 2006 and as yet, have to replace their bar facilities, so it was thought a good idea to stop somewhere on the way.
A good time was had by all. Food was great. Beer was good and Chelsea were on the box. We left in good spirits and good time to reach White Hart Lane in time for kick off, to be welcomed by Dean Falla (Kit Man, Haribo dealer and Tesco Man of the Year) panicking about whether we were going to make it to the match.
This season it was agreed, we would try to visit a local hostelry for refreshments on our way to matches and see if it enhanced our “Away Daze”.
So with the Good Beer Guide, the Cask Marque website and our trusty SatNav to hand, we look forward to representing Dunstable Town on our travels and hope to report back on our visits with as honest evaluations as possible.
To the Regiment…I wish I was there.
